Product Description

2205 is a duplex stainless steel with a mixed austenitic and ferritic structure that delivers roughly twice the yield strength of 304 or 316. With a minimum yield of 450 MPa and a pitting resistance equivalent number above 34, it resists chloride stress corrosion cracking and pitting that limit standard austenitic grades.

The higher strength also allows thinner sections and lighter structures, so less material is needed for the same duty. HYX supplies 2205 plate from 3mm to 50mm for chemical, oil and gas and desalination equipment where both mechanical strength and corrosion resistance are critical.

Applications

2205 duplex plate is used for chemical reactor vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, desalination plant, pulp and paper equipment and offshore oil and gas structures. The combination of high strength and chloride resistance suits equipment that faces aggressive media and mechanical load at the same time.

It also serves flue gas desulphurization, marine and brine handling systems. Designers choose 2205 over 316 where standard grades would suffer stress corrosion cracking or require heavier sections to carry the load, making duplex a durable and often more economical solution.

Quality Assurance & Packaging

HYX inspects chemical composition, mechanical properties and surface before dispatch, and issues an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate covering yield strength and PREN. Third party SGS or BV inspection can be arranged on request.

Plates are surface protected, strapped with steel bands and wrapped in waterproof paper on wooden pallets for container shipment. Export packing prevents surface damage and moisture ingress during ocean transit and can be tailored to the customer requirements.
